The Rush Table

£9,360.00

The Rush Table is defined by its materials. The top and pedestal frame are crafted from locally sourced Scottish Ash, known for its beautiful, clean grain, exceptional durability, and sustainable credentials. We pride ourselves on using locally-felled timber to support Scottish forestry and reduce our carbon footprint.

The heart of the table's design is its conical pedestal base, intricately wrapped in hand-coiled and stitched river rush. Our weaving technique isn't just an aesthetic choice ; it’s an act of cultural preservation. The technique draws inspiration from the traditional, endangered techniques used in Orkney and Fair Isle chairmaking. Historically, Fair Isle chairs feature backs made of twisted oat straw, a skill that is now extremely rare. By applying this stitched weaving style to a contemporary table design, we aim to honour this unique aspect of Scottish vernacular furniture design.
