Originally designed as a Spindleback version of the Gimson, the design has evolved over the years. Edward Gardiner first modified the design to include a Clissett style top slat, and the design was later named after him by his successor, Neville Neal.

Featuring two rows of delicately turned spindles, the chair otherwise follows the classic Gimson design.
