Canopy
The Canopy chair takes inspiration from the woodlands surrounding our workshop on the Marchmont House estate in the Scottish Borders, much of which has been affected by ash dieback in recent years. Using green wood, we utilise traditional techniques passed down through 6 generations of master to apprentice in innovative ways to create a more contemporary design. The turned rear legs of the chair flow up into hand-carved winding branches emulating the ash tree and joining into a sweeping split crest, representing canopy ‘shyness’; the phenomena of leaves and branches of two adjacent trees never quite meeting. The crest wraps around the sitter, offering support above a hand-woven seat made from common river rush, which we harvest each summer.

Our chairs are available in Oak and Ash, and can be stained or painted to suit your needs. We're also happy to discuss new materials or adjustments to any of our designs.

This price excludes delivery or overseas crating where necessary. This will be calculated once your order has been received, based on the delivery address and the scale of order.

The finishes we use provide good resistance to spillages wiped away relatively quickly with a damp cloth, but if you feel like the finish needs a top up we recommend a beeswax based finish.
The woven rush is a naturally stain resistant material, but can be prone to mould if left in damp conditions.
